Match Report June 20, 2018
Wheatley Heights Sports Complex, San Antonio
Samba FC took the pitch for their second United Premier Soccer League match of the season on a blistering hot June afternoon, the temperature in the stands easily reached into the 100’s and it was only worse on the artificial turf of the Wheatley Heights sports complex.
The temperature did not affect are boys as they took control of the possession early and pressured the Knights defense  relentlessly. The Knights keeper Charles Schober was up to the task early in the 1st half as he made some really nice punch saves, one of which connected to the head of our #11 Mishori Alsadoon resulting in the medical staff being summoned onto the pitch.
The first real attack Samba FC faced wasn’t until the 26th minute when a Knights counter led to a rocketing shot by #6 Lateef Alli that forced Justin Jimenez to tip it over the crossbar, the resulting corner kick was easily cleared.
After that Samba FC mounted the attack again forcing Schober to make some nice saves against Alsadoon and #14 Rolando Crossdale as well as facing 2 near misses of the foot of #9 Enoc Roches.
Both teams made Subs at halftime with #8 Adam Cerny being replaced by #17 Inri Santos for Samba FC and #10 Zachary Gray coming on for #4 Tyler Taglieri for FC Knights. The substitutions did nothing the halt the Samba attack as Roches, Alsadoon and #12 Marcelino Zamora all got shots off in the first few minutes of the 2nd half.
The breakthrough for Samba FC finally came in the 83rd minute when Enoc Roches was finally able to beat Schober for the game winning Goal. 3 minutes later Roches would capitalize on a defensive mistake and shake his defender to grab his 2nd of the match.
Justin Jimenez would face only his second test of the afternoon in stoppage time when #6 Lateef Alli would get a breakaway and get a good look at goal which Jimenez would be forced to block but could not come away with cleanly forcing him to make a spectacular save on the rebound.
The final whistle would blow and Samba FC would walk away with all 3 points and their 1st win of the season.
